Prints & Licensing

Own the work, or license it.

Archival prints of selected photographs are available directly from the studio, and most images may be licensed for editorial or commercial use. Owen McCullum is based in Washington, D.C., and ships worldwide.

Available prints

A small, growing selection offered as archival prints. Ordering is arranged personally for now — send an inquiry and you'll get sizes, pricing, and a way to pay. Full terms are below.

01The prints

Archival pigment prints, made to last.

Every print is produced as an archival pigment print (giclée) on museum-grade cotton-rag paper, color- and tone-managed from the original capture. Prints are produced to order; please allow up to ten business days before shipping.

Sizes refer to paper dimensions and include a white border for handling and framing. Image proportions vary by photograph; the studio will confirm the exact image area for your selection.

02Editions

Open and limited editions.

Open-edition prints are available on an ongoing basis at the sizes listed below. Limited-edition prints are signed, numbered, and capped at a fixed edition size; once an edition closes it is not reprinted at that size. Each limited-edition print ships with a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording the title, edition number, paper, and date of production.

  • Limited editions are numbered sequentially (e.g. 3/15).
  • A small number of artist's proofs (AP) may be retained.
  • Edition pricing may rise as an edition sells through.
03Sizes & pricing

Prices are in U.S. dollars and exclude framing, applicable tax, and shipping. Custom sizes are available on request.

04Framing & finishing

Prints ship unframed by default, interleaved with acid-free tissue and rolled in a rigid tube, or flat-packed for smaller sizes. Custom framing — conservation matting and UV-protective glazing — is available for D.C.-area collectors and is quoted per piece.

05Shipping & handling

Orders ship insured and tracked. Domestic U.S. delivery typically arrives within 3–7 business days of dispatch; international transit times vary. The buyer is responsible for any import duties, customs fees, or taxes levied by the destination country.

06Returns & condition

Because prints are produced to order, sales are final except where a print arrives damaged or defective. Notify the studio within 7 days of delivery, with photographs of the item and packaging, and a replacement will be produced at no charge. Limited-edition works are not eligible for return once the Certificate of Authenticity has been transferred.

07Image licensing

Licensing the photographs.

Most images may be licensed for editorial or commercial use. A license grants limited, non-exclusive permission to reproduce a specified image for a defined use, term, and territory; it does not transfer copyright or ownership. Fees are quoted per use and depend on the medium, audience, duration, territory, and exclusivity required.

Editorial — online, one-time useSingle article or post, 1-year term from $250
Editorial — printQuarter to full page, per insertion $350 – $900
Commercial / advertisingQuoted by scope, term & territory from $1,500

Figures above are starting points for scoping; every license is confirmed in a written agreement before files are released.

08Editorial use

Editorial licenses cover news, commentary, education, and other non-promotional contexts. Editorial use does not require model or property releases, but the licensee is responsible for ensuring its use is genuinely editorial and not defamatory. A credit line — “© Owen McCullum” — must appear adjacent to or beneath each reproduction.

09Commercial use

Commercial and advertising licenses cover promotion of a product, service, or brand. Because the photographs are documentary in nature and may depict identifiable people or private property, commercial use may require model or property releases; the studio will advise on a per-image basis. Releases are not guaranteed for every image, and some photographs are not available for commercial licensing.

10Rights & restrictions

Unless expressly agreed in writing, all licenses are subject to the following:

  • The license is non-exclusive, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable.
  • The image may not be altered, cropped, or manipulated beyond minor sizing without consent.
  • The image may not be resold, redistributed, or made available for download as a standalone file.
  • The image may not be used to train, develop, or improve any machine-learning or generative-AI system.
  • Use beyond the agreed medium, term, or territory requires a new license.
11Copyright & ownership

Copyright in all photographs is retained by Owen McCullum at all times. Purchase of a print conveys ownership of that physical object only and confers no reproduction rights. A license conveys the specific rights stated in its agreement and nothing more. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

12Payment & terms

Print orders are payable in full before production. Licensing fees are invoiced on agreement and are due within 30 days; usage rights take effect only upon receipt of payment in full. A purchase order or unpaid invoice does not constitute a license. Quotes are valid for 30 days.

This page summarizes standard terms for convenience and does not itself constitute a contract or legal advice. Any sale or license is governed by a separate written agreement, interpreted under the laws of the District of Columbia.
